ACOPIA Gallery is where we show art works from Asian art school students. We are introducing young Asian artists from Myanmar, Vietnam, Nepal, Bangladesh, Mongolia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan and more. We discover outstanding students who will lead the new flow of contemporary art through creative works. By displaying their works, we want to show the passion of young Asian artists.

청년의 열정과 창의적인 작업으로 현대미술의 흐름을 주도할 젊고 재능있는 학생 작가를 찾고 있다. 그러나 청년작가, 특히 학생작가는 작품의 홍보나 판매의 기회가 적다. 아코피아는 아코피아 갤러리는 예술작품을 소개, 홍보, 판매하는 대안으로 사용할 것을 제안한다. 이를 통해 청년작가의 고충이 일정부분 해소되리라 기대한다. 결과적으로 아코피아 갤러리라는 매개체를 통해 코로나로 인해 정체된 아시아 미술시장에 활력을 불어넣고자 한다.

Young artists, especially young student artists, have not much opportunities to promote or sell their works. ACOPIA suggests to use ACOPIA gallery as an alternative to introduce, promote and sell art works. Through this, we hope that some of the difficulties of the young artist will be resolved. As a result, through the medium of ACOPIA Gallery, we intend to revitalize the Asian art market which is stagnated by the COVID-19.

ASIAN

아시아는 세계의 중심으로 도약할 수 있는 무한한 가능성을 지니고 있다. 그러나 오랫동안 ‘후진국’이라는 오명을 쓴 채로, 또는 ‘신비로운 동양’이라는 규정 속에서 사회적, 문화적인 몰이해를 겪어왔다. 이에 아코피아는 잘 알려지지 못했던 아시아의 다양한 국가의 작가들의 작품세계를 탐구하고자 한다. 먼저, 우리는 청년작가들과 민족 고유의 설화, 풍송, 신앙, 생활 등의 특징을 담은 작품을 발굴하고자 한다. 그리고, 우리는 국가 내부, 또는 국제사회의 폐단에 대한 자신의 비판적 또는 반성적 목소리를 널리 호소하고자 하는 청년작가들의 작품활동 홍보를 돕고자 한다.

Asia has infinite possibilities to leap to the center of the world. However, for a long time, under the stigma of “an underdeveloped country,” or under the rule of “mysterious East,” Asia have suffered social and cultural misunderstandings. Accordingly, ACOPIA desire to search art works of artists from various countries in Asia, which were not well known. First, we would like to discover young artists and art works which inherent national characteristics such as folk tales, customs, beliefs, and life. In addition, we aim to help to promote artistic activities of young artists who wants to widely appeal their critical or reflective voices on the negative effect of the country or the international society.

우리의 목표는 문화적 교류를 통해 세계의 평화에 기여하는 것이다. 우리는 그동안 하던 다양한 교류활동과 더불어 미술작품까지 그 영역을 확장하고자 한다. 자연의 모방을 목표로 하던 미술은 오늘날 모방에서 탈피하여 다양한 주제를 담는다. 다양한 사회 문제, 폐단, 인간 심리 등을 보여주며 예술은 담론의 장이 되어 우리의 인식이나 행동의 변화를 촉구한다. 우리는 아시아의 청년작가들이 조명할 다양한 이슈와 담론을 기대한다.

Our goal is to contribute to world peace through cultural exchange. In addition to the various exchange activities we have been doing so far, we intend to expand the field to art works. Art, which aimed at the imitation of nature escapes from imitation today and contains various themes. It shows various social problems, evil, human psychology, etc., and art becomes a place of discourse and urges changes in our perceptions and behaviors. We look forward to various issues and discourses which would be illuminated by young artists in Asia.
